Vocational Service Is Energizing

With January in our rear view mirror and the New Year well underway our Vocational Service programs are continuing to inspire and support the ideal of Service.

We began the year with our Veterans Stand Down clothing drive. I am so thrilled to report it was a tremendous success and as usual, our fellow Rotarians did not disappoint. In collaboration with our fellow Escondido Rotary clubs we collected 1 ton of clothing for our San Diego Vets.

As you may know, we have added a high school music scholarship to our program.

Ossie Arciniega has led this program to identify a Tuba prayer from Escondido High School.  You may have seen Tiani at our recent meeting. She was given a $100 scholarship to continue her music education beyond her high school years and will move on to the District competition where the winner will receive $2,500 and 3 runner-ups get $500 each.  Best of luck to Tiani.

Our Principal for the Day event has been moved to the summer calendar due to a principal conference.  Do look for a posting to come with our future date.  Luis Ibarra is planning a fun day to shadow the daily principal activities. This is an exciting opportunity to raise the profile of our Escondido Unified School District needs and learn more about our schools.

With Spring comes our April Rotating Meetings.  Claud Lubin will deliver another engaging program.  Please contact Claud if you would like your company to be added to the lineup.

Throughout the year, Vaughn North continues to amaze us with his passion and commitment to make Escondido greater through the Escondido Shines program. This year we have updated the Shines website.  We encourage you to visit www.EscondidoShines.Org. It is current, informative and easy to navigate.

We are off to a great start to a fantastic year!
