Our own Trudy Bronner was honored with a standing ovation when it was announced that Dr. Bronner’s, the Vista company famed for its peppermint liquid soap and “all one God faith” mantras printed on every bottle, has pledged $250,000 in each of the next four years to the Oceanside nonprofit TERI. The money will be used to expand TERI’s Campus of Life, which serves children and adults with autism and special needs.

Nigerian singer/songwriter Tiwa Savage is the newest face to join Rotary’s ‘This Close’ public awareness campaign for polio eradication. A paralyzing and life altering disease, polio is on the verge of becoming the second human disease ever to be eliminated worldwide after smallpox. Savage, who has been described by CNN as Nigeria’s biggest pop star, will help Rotary achieve its goal of a polio-free world by raising awareness about the vaccine-preventable disease. Savage administered a vaccine to children in Lagos in late April. Nigeria regularly conducts mass immunization campaigns to vaccinate every child under the age of five in the country.

On Saturday, April 22nd Rotarians, Rotaracts and others joined together to clean up over 150,000 lbs of litter, trash, and debris at Harmony Grove, Grape Day and Moutain View Parks. I definitely was another successful event and we showed the earth some well deserved love on Earth Day!

Our Rotary club was just informed about the exciting results from the FRC World Championship Robotics Event in Houston Texas. The team ranked 12th of 67 teams in the qualifying matches (among the top competitors in the tournament of 400 teams). The SuperNURDS were the 1st pick of the 4th seed alliance captain to compete in the quarterfinals matches. They won all of their quarter finals matches, but were elinated in the semifinals by the alliance that eventually won 2nd place in the world.
