Kudos to Irv Erdos for his well-deserved first place award as Best Newspaper Humorist.  He was competing against newspapers with over 50,000 in circulation including the New York Times, USA Today, and Chicago Tribune.  Congratulations, Irv.  His cash prize was $300; President Royce fined him $150.

Jim Gregg was honored as our Rotarian of the Month. He has served the Rotary Club of Escondido since 1978 - that's 39 years. In that time he has quietly worked to get Rotary scholarships to deserving high-schoolers, and most recently led the acquisition of our new piano. Thank you, Gregg, for your service.

It is the duty of our Rotary club to add new members from time to time, so that we may not only increase our usefulness and influence as a club, but also to extend the spirit of Rotary throughout the community. On June 13th, we welcomed three new members to our ranks and admit to membership. Prospective members join Rotary to make a difference, and they stay because of the friendships they’ve made. Find ways to get to know our new members better and help them get to know other members.

Fourteen Escondido area high school juniors were selected to go to RYLA in April.  RYLA encourages servant leadership in youth by recognizing and rewarding deserving 11th grade students who are chosen to attend RYLA as an "award" for their past and present leadership and service activities.
