Program: Coeur de Cuisine Coordination

Three things always happen when you hear a former Marine speak: You will sing about the “Halls of Montezuma” and “The Shores of Tri-Po-Li.” You will be reminded not to even try to make excuses. You will learn new words and phrases that your mother never taught you.

Introduced by The Marines’ Hymn, Paul McNamara reminded us that we are all too busy, that there is a lot of work to be done, and that the money raised in Coeur de Cuisine really represents how much we Rotarians care about our community.

As an extra benefit, we learned that Marines don’t say, “Suppose Bob was hit by a bus tomorrow…”  Rather, they say, “Suppose Bob was taken out by a sniper….”  And we learned that a Marine officer as a last resort does not say, “ Please, pretty please,  volunteer.” He says, “How would you like to join the British Navy?” Followed by “klunk”, which we assume is the sound of the volunteer being knocked on the head, to awaken later on a British ship.

Chairman McNamara brought up Linda Zullinger, from the Assistance League of Inland North County, to talk about how many children and elderly they were able to provide with clothes and shoes through our donations.

Delisle Calac, the greatest baseball catcher in the history of Escondido High, came up to share his appreciation for the honor bestowed on his family.

Peter Wrobel of Koo Koo Liqueur came up, showed a video, and auctioned off a bottle of his liqueur.  They will be one of the sponsors at the Coeur de Cuisine.
